Typhoon Kompasu Hits South Korea – Typhoon Kompasu hit the South Korean Capital, Seoul, downing power lines and causing transport chaos. At least three individuals were killed and dozens were injured in the storm. Typhoon Kompasu is the strongest to hit Seoul in 15 years.
There were more than 120 flights that have been cancelled and power cuts affected major parts of the subway network.
The typhoon made landfall in South Korea early on Thursday at Ganghwa Island, before passing to the north-east of Seoul. Power lines and trees were knocked down in the capital and hospitals were full of people injured after being hit by flying glass.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency, a man was killed after a being hit by a flying roof tile. Another died after a tree branch fell and hit him. One more individual in his 70s was electrocuted.
Meanwhile, meteorologist s say, the typhoon is now heading north towards the Sea of Japan.
